“If You Need a Coat – Take One”, Dubliners Say and Hang Them on the Bridge

“If you need one, please take one. If you want to help, please hang one up,” say the signs on the Ha’penny Bridge in Dublin, Ireland, where city dwellers are volunteering their unwanted winter jackets to those in need.

Dubliners can also leave their winter hats, gloves and scarves in a plastic box, also located on the bridge. The initiative was kickstarted by the Warm for Winter Facebook page, with the aim of hanging clothing in areas those in need are likely to walk by.

The mission of the Warm for Winter campaign, initiated by Patrick Fryers, is to help the homeless during the cold winter season. Fryers is encouraging other locations to follow the initiative, explaining, “Even if it’s only one coat, bring it to anywhere you think someone might need it and hang it up.”

“Imagine everyone else doing the same thing,” he adds. “It’s not a big task.”
