Big U.S. Airline Wants to Be Carbon Neutral on Domestic Flights by This Summer

2020 is a big year for JetBlue: the U.S. airline is planning to start using sustainable aviation fuel on its flights, and has also announced its goal to become carbon neutral on all domestic flights by this July.

JetBlue’s sustainable aviation fuel will first be launched on flights from San Francisco International Airport. Sustainable fuel is made 100% from waste and residues. It has 80% smaller carbon footprint than regular fuel.

Through investments in projects such as those focusing on forest conservation or renewable energy generation, up to 17 billion pounds of emissions would be offset each year – according to the airline, that’s “the annual equivalent of removing more than 1.5 million passenger vehicles from the road.”
