Left Trash in Our Park? We Will Mail It Back to You!

Thailand’s Khao Yai National Park has found a new way to keep its premises clean and to increase awareness against littering: officials send back to tourists the trash they left behind.

“Trash that tourists left in the park is now packed into boxes and ready to send back to the [owner],” says Thailand’s Environment Minister Varawut Silpa-archa. “One owner of the garbage has already complained to police officers. I repeat, leaving garbage in the park is an offense. I will mail every piece of trash to tourists as souvenirs.”

Upon their arrival at the park, visitors leave their complete information and are informed that they must “put their trash in the trash bins they received before leaving, so as not to endanger the wild animals living in the park,” explains Silpa-archa. It is therefore easy for authorities to ship unwanted trash that can be detrimental to animals and humans alike.
