Society NigeriaMillions More Girls Are Getting Access to Education Here
Nigeria is expanding its education program to reach over eight and a half million girls.
“A larger number of vulnerable girls will be reached in 18 states providing digital skills, a more conducive learning environment, and life skills, towards seeing over 8.6 million girls completing their secondary education,” says Aisha Garba, the Task Team Lead on the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment program.
Thanks to a World Bank investment of $700 million, Nigeria will reach millions of girls in need of education. In total, over 15 million students and beneficiaries are involved in the program, including teachers, administrators, families, communities, and staff in schools across 18 states. Furthermore, the program is expected to reach out-of-school girls, those married, and those with disabilities. “Closing the gender gaps in economic empowerment by ensuring girls have access to education and skills is key for Nigeria’s development and economic prosperity,” adds World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Shubham Chaudhuri.
