Millions of Kilograms of Waste Removed from Our Oceans

Seven Clean Seas, a United Kingdom-based environmental organization, has reached a milestone: they have removed over 2 million kg of ocean plastic since 2020.

“We are over the moon to have reached this incredible milestone and remain resolute in our mission of removing ten million kg of plastic from our oceans by 2025 as well as creating permanent change in the seven most polluted areas of the world,” says Tom Peacock-Nazil, founder of Seven Clean Seas.

By creating a steady goal of removing 160,000 kilograms of plastic from the world’s oceans every month until 2025, the organization can remove around 2 million kilograms of plastic annually, ultimately reaching its goal of removing 10 million kg of plastic from the oceans by 2025. In terms of the waste collected, thus far, 36 percent has been from polyester textiles, 9 percent from personal care items, 5 percent from sandals, 8 percent from product packaging, 8 percent from plastic bags, 3 percent from food wrapping, 2 percent from plastic cups and plates, and 1 percent from plastic drink bottles. Seven Clean Seas currently carries out multiple clean-up projects in Indonesia and Thailand.
