More Homes Have Electricity Across This Country

In just 15 years, electricity access for households in Rwanda has increased to 75 percent, up from 6 percent in 2009.

Rwanda’s electrification expansion is one of the fastest growing in the world. The country is a shining example of how, with appropriate efforts, universal electrification is achieveable, ensuring affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy to all.

As of 2024, 100 percent of health centers in the country are now connected as well as 84 percent of schools. The country has mobilized over $1.4 billion from varying development partners – including $750 million from the World Bank – to help in the electrification of the country. The country is on track to reach the United Nations Goal 7, which ensures access to clean and affordable energy for all. It is also likely that Rwanda’s electrification journey will lead to further development of its agriculture, business, communication, and education sectors, among others.
