Only Electric Buses to Ride Through This City by 2035

As part of New York’s efforts to become an emission-free American state, the Big Apple’s entire fleet of school buses will have to be fully electric by September 1, 2035.

A total of 885 city-owned diesel school buses will be changed for fully electric ones. The buses conversion and the installation of the required electrical infrastructure, which includes electric charging stations, will cost the state $367.3 million by 2035.

At the New York City Council, 44 votes were in favor of the bill, and only one was against it. The bill, which will soon be signed into law, is aligned with the state’s decision to allow only zero-emission passenger cars and light commercial vehicles to be sold from 2035. As part of the bill, non-emergency fleet vehicles will be required to be electric by 2040, and all parking facilities will need at least 20% of their spaces to have electric vehicle chargers.
