Environment United KingdomOn Track to a Whole Fleet of Electric Buses
London, England’s capital, is looking to convert its fleet of around 9,000 buses to zero-emissions models by the end of the decade. Grid investment in the United Kingdom is expected to rise to $13.2 billion by 2026.
Transport of London is on track to have 2,500 electric buses on the road by next year.
As of 2024, London’s bus fleet includes 1,600 electric buses. That’s up from 485 in March 2021. By the end of the financial year, there will be an additional 350 electric buses in the fleet. At the end of 2023, there were only 78 of them. In the Lea depot alone, 50 electric buses with 28 150-kilowatt chargers can fully charge a bus in two to three hours. They plan to have 263 buses, expanding their 6-megawatt grid connection to 9 megawatts, equivalent to around 6,000 houses.
