Animals CanadaOne Step Closer to the End of Animal Testing Here
Canada will be phasing out all chemical toxicity testing on animals, a political step in the right direction to put a definitive halt to this cruel activity by 2035.
“This move will not just spare tens of thousands of animals, but it will also pave the way for the development, validation, and implementation of more human-relevant non-animal safety assessment methods,” explains Shaarika Sarasija, senior strategist, research and regulatory science for Humane Society International (HSI) /Canada.
Bill S-5 includes measures such as using new testing methods that don’t require animals and encouraging the development of alternative methods to animal testing. The government has two years to publish its plan detailing steps to achieve these goals. Canada is planning on ending all toxicity animal testing by 2035.
