Online Retail Giant Plants Trees, Buys E-Vans, Wants All Renewable in Ten Years

The world’s largest online retailer Amazon has recently announced its order of 100,000 electric trucks – the largest light-duty electric vehicle purchase ever made – from US-based startup Rivian, as part of its goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement.

Co-founder of The Climate Pledge, Amazon is also investing in reforestation and committing to its plan of 100% renewable energy in the next decade. The company expects to make its first deliveries with the e-trucks by 2021, with all trucks on the road by 2030.

“If a company with as much physical infrastructure as Amazon—which delivers more than 10 billion items a year—can meet the Paris Agreement 10 years early, then any company can,” Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said in a statement.
