Society NepalOver 97 Percent Electricity Access Here
Nepal has made significant progress in electricity access, reaching over 97% of municipalities.
The Nepal Electricity Authority released the white paper report less than a month after Executive Director Hitendra Dev Shakya assumed office. The report showcases Nepal’s commitment to universal electricity access despite growing demand.
In recent years, electricity has reached 97.5% of municipalities and 91.4% of households nationwide. Though there is still a disparity in access in some remote regions, the nation is committed to expanding access and connecting the remaining areas. Speaking on the report, Shakya emphasized the need for semi-reservoir, reservoir-based, and pumped-storage hydroelectric projects, as well as battery energy storage systems. These green energy solutions mean the nation is on track to reach universal energy access and toward an overall more sustainable electrical network.
