Environment United KingdomRapid Growth in Electric Cars Sales Here
More sales of electric cars were registered in England, United Kingdom, in March 2022 than in the whole of 2019, highlighting that the country’s transition from internal combustion engines to electricity-powered vehicles is accelerating.
“At the current rate, sales of new electric vehicles will overtake both traditional petrol and diesel sales by 2025,” says Ian Plummer, a director at car sales website AutoTrader.
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, a total of 39,315 battery electric vehicles were registered during the month of March alone. In comparison, the total reached 37,850 registered electric units in all of 2019. Areas of South England like Kent and Peterborough/Cambridge are experiencing particularly rapid growth, with a third of sales being fully electric.
