Revolutionizing Cancer Treatments

New individualised cancer treatments are emerging, with the potential to revolutionise how patients receive care.

Experimental treatments that have been in development for a couple of decades are showing positive results in some patients. The idea is that, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, doctors can use altered immune cells from a patient’s own body to target and eradicate cancerous cells.

Back in 2012, a 6-year-old leukaemia patient underwent the experimental treatment. Nearly thirteen years later, she is still cancer-free. Following years of further research, many experts agree that the new therapies provide more targeted and safer delivery to cancer tumours. This is in contrast to the current chemotherapy and radiation approach, which not only kills off harmful cancer cells but also healthy ones. More clinical trials must be conducted to ensure the treatment is safe and effective in the long term. However, many researchers are hopeful that we are on the right track to creating more individualised therapies that potentially eradicate cancer in the body without causing significant harm to healthy cells.
