Come to the Studio and Learn With Me, Hollywood Star Tells Marginalized Groups

With his self-funded diversity and inclusion program called “The Group Effort Initiative”, Ryan Reynolds gives marginalized communities the chance to work on and learn from his productions, even get a foot in the door of the industry.

Ryan Reynolds explains that 10-20 trainees will “spend their days on set learning from professionals”, adding that “for entirely too long [the film industry] has systemically excluded black, indigenous, people of color (BIPOC) and several other marginalized communities … but change can start locally and immediately”.

The trainees will include BIPOC and people from other marginalized communities across the age spectrum. “All ages?! Yes!” Reynolds adds. “Because it’s never too late.” All expenses, including housing and travel costs as well as their pay, will be covered by the actor’s salary. The actor hopes his initiative will inspire his fellow film industry friends to join in the effort.
