Technology USAThis Super Fast Truck Delivers Fresh Products – Without a Driver!
A self-driving truck made the journey from Arizona to Oklahoma, in the United States, ten hours faster than traditional delivery with solely a human behind the wheel, positive news for farmers and merchants alike.
“We believe the food industry is one of many that will greatly benefit from the use of TuSimple’s autonomous trucking technology,” says Jim Mullen, Chief Administrative Officer at TuSimple. “Given the fact that autonomous trucks can operate nearly continuously without taking a break means fresh produce can be moved from origin to destination faster, resulting in fresher food and less waste.”
TuSimple is a transportation company that focuses on driverless tech for trucks. Eighty percent of the 1,500 km cross-country ride was driven by the autonomous system, and for the remaining 20%, a driver was at the wheel. Given that humans are allowed to drive 11 hours out of every 14 hours on the road, it took the semi-autonomous truck 14 hours instead of 24 to make the trip. TuSimple has some 20 clients using their vehicles, and the company is looking to develop fully autonomous driving solutions for heavy-duty trucks.
