When visiting a business partner recently at her office here in Munich, I had an extraordinary animal encounter: Four sheep and four lambs grazed happily on the rooftop of the office building – in the middle of the city. When cute lamb triplets were born there earlier this year, it was sensational news.
The small herd of Valais Black Nose sheep were brought to this urban alp to take care of the lawn on the rooftop and to be part of an eco-system project in the area. A shepherd and his team take care of the sheep seven days per week.
They can only be visited by the public during rare guided tours to let them live without stress surrounded by about 12900 square feet of wild flowers and herbs. Their wool is processed in workshops for kids in the office block.
