One More Country Bans Wild Animals in Circuses and Marine Parks

The government of France has ruled for a gradual ban on wild animals in traveling circuses, as well as dolphins and killer whales kept in captivity in marine parks. This will also put an end to mink farming where animals are raised for their fur.

“It is time to open a new era in our relationship with these (wild) animals,”says Barbara Pompili, France’s minister of ecological transition, arguing that animal welfare is a priority.

The government will implement a $9.2 million package to help with the transition as people will need to find other jobs. “That transition will be spread over several years, because it will change the lives of many people,” adds Mrs. Pompili.
