Steady Nutrition Gains Lift Thousands of Young Lives

Child stunting declined in Rwanda from 33% to 27% between 2020 and 2025, marking sustained progress in child nutrition and early health outcomes nationwide.

“These indicators form a single, interconnected set, and the linkages are clear,” said Sabin Nsanzimana, Minister of Health, highlighting the impact of coordinated health and nutrition efforts.

National survey data show stunting fell in both scale and geographic spread, with the number of districts above 30% dropping from 20 to 11 over five years, while wasting declined from 8% to 6%. The results reflect expanded nutrition, health, and early-childhood interventions, with a renewed national plan now focusing on accelerating progress in high-burden districts and sustaining gains already achieved.
