Now Push “Print” to Create an Affordable House in a Day

A partnership between a non-profit organisation and a technology company will create a settlement of 50 houses for low income families in South America – all made by 3D printers on site!

The social housing nonprofit New Story, along with home-building technology company ICON, are working together on the project in Latin America. They are not revealing yet where exactly the development will be, but are targeting semi-rural areas.

With the goal of providing a better future to those who can’t afford modern society’s high costs, the sustainable houses are currently eligible for families who earn under USD 200 a month.

The families will pay a small fee without interest for their homes, of which the full amount will go directly into the development fund. The houses, funded by donors, cost around USD 7,000 each and take merely 24 hours to construct.

New Story and Icon partnered together in March 2018, creating the United States’ very first 3D-printed home in Austin. Now, they’re building the Latin American neighborhood using the same technology, but on a larger scale, and are expected to open to residents this year.
