Tens of Millions of Tons of White Hydrogen have Just been Found!

The region Lorraine in Southeastern France could potentially have the world’s most extensive known supply of white hydrogen with some 46 million tons, or more than half the 80-million-ton global annual production of grey hydrogen, in the deposit.

A team of researchers from France’s National Centre of Scientific Research stumbled upon the potential deposit of naturally occurring hydrogen – or white hydrogen – on their quest to find methane gas in Lorrain sub-soil with a SysMoG probe developed by the Swiss-based company Solexperts.

White hydrogen reserves are explored in the Alps, New Caledonia, and the Pyrenees. With the Lorraine 46-million-ton deposit, France could potentially produce 3 million tons of gas a year. Untapped deposits could lie in the United States, Australia, and elsewhere – including Finland, Germany, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Iceland, Norway, Poland, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, and Russia. The well of Bourakébougou in Mali is the only exploited white hydrogen site in the world, extracting some 5 million tons a year. As the only form occurring naturally, white hydrogen is considered a primary energy source. All others are secondary forms of energy. Grey hydrogen is produced in factories by processing natural gas. Black hydrogen is produced from coal, while green hydrogen comes from water electrolysis using electricity generated from renewable sources.
