Their Plan: End Extreme Poverty Within Two Years!

The archipelago of Cabo Verde has already seen a decline in the proportion of its population living in extreme poverty. It is determined to empower communities through a comprehensive approach and break the cycle of extreme poverty for good by 2026.

Champion for poverty reduction in Africa, Cabo Verde saw a reduction in the proportion of its population living in extreme poverty – that is to say with less than $1.90 a day. Indeed, it fell from 22.6% in 2015 to 11.1% in 2022.

Determined to continue this fight, the African country located 500 km off the coast of West Africa developed a National Strategy for Eradication of Extreme Poverty (ENEPE) 2022-2026 that will not only address the root causes of extreme poverty but also empower communities. This will be achieved through building sustainable infrastructure, providing education and vocational training, supporting local businesses, and ensuring critical livelihood assistance for the most vulnerable part of the population.
