This Hashtag Aims to Remove Tons of Trash from the Earth’s Oceans

A millionaire YouTuber is turning to his fans for help in cleaning up our Earth’s oceans: in a project set to remove 30 million pounds of ocean waste, the YouTuber has already reached almost half his fundraising goal in under a month.

Influential YouTuber MrBeast announced the hashtag #TeamSeas in late October 2021 – partnering with fellow YouTuber Mark Rober, Campaign Director Matt Fitzgerald, and nonprofits Ocean Conservancy and The Ocean Cleanup – with a goal of raising $30 million dollars to recover 30 million pounds of trash from oceans, beaches, and rivers before the end of the year.

#TeamSeas have decided to not only clean the oceans, but to also ensure all recyclable trash collected will be properly recycled, and that all non-recyclable trash will be properly disposed. This mass collection of ocean pollution will not be able to be recycled in its entirety, leading #TeamSeas to state that “we need to reduce the amount of plastic we use and waste we generate, period.”

So far, $13,870,863 US dollars have been donated to #TeamSeas, equating to 13,870,863 pounds of trash being removed from the world’s waterways by MrBeast and the team. Nearly halfway to their end goal, #TeamSeas is on track to reach their objective before 2022 — a well-designed, well-executed project that benefits marine life and the entire globe.
