Tiny House Make Dream Come True for Challenged Tenants

The construction of “Tiny House Villages” is a big trend here in Germany, and I have discovered an exemplary tiny house project: In the municipality of Ursberg, in the Bavarian region of Swabia, seven mini-houses have been recently built that are only open to tenants with mental disabilities or illnesses.

This unique pilot scheme for ambulant-assisted living allows people to live their dream with more freedom and a single-handed life with more personal responsibilities.

Each tiny house has around 376 square feet of space (including a bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom), colorful fronts and a flat roof. The tenants receive assistance twice a week for two hours. The rest of the time, they have to master their daily routine themselves, including cooking, cleaning and doing the laundry.

Each house, built with solid wood, costs about 60,000 euros to construct, and is entirely financed by the catholic foundation Dominikus-Ringeisen-Werk. As the demand is high, more tiny houses in the area are to be built until 2021.
