“City of the Future” with Wooden Houses, Robots and E-Cars – and Built by a Car Company

The world’s largest car company, Toyota, unveiled a project to build the “city of the future” in Japan, consisting of mostly-wooden buildings, zero-emission vehicles and solar power.

The new “Woven City” will begin construction in 2021 and is to be home to Toyota’s own employees as well as retailers and external scientists. The company expects it to host around 2,000 people.

The main goal would be for Toyota to research how new technology, such as autonomous vehicles, robotics, personal mobility, smart homes and artificial intelligence would be experienced in a real-world environment.
