EnvironmentSociety ChinaWe Have a New Leader in Car Exports
In the world of car manufacturing, there has been a shuffling of major players with China becoming the latest largest exporter, helped by the growing demand for electric vehicles.
Demands for electric cars are on the rise, helping China’s motor industry to expand. In fact, first quarter exports of new energy vehicles (NEVs) rose by 90% compared with last year’s numbers.
With a total of 3.2 million vehicles in 2022, China overtook Germany as the second biggest car exporter in the world. The former runner-up exported 2.6 million vehicles last year. And in the first quarter of this year, China exported a total of 1.07 million vehicles – an increase of 58% from the same period last year – overtaking Japan’s numbers. China is home to Tesla’s Gigafactory, where 1.25 million vehicles are produced every year, and the company plans on expanding its capacity.
