Environment United KingdomWind Energy Is Blowing Fossil Fuels Away
Fossil fuel-generated energy fell to its lowest level in over a century throughout Great Britain.
Renewable wind energy was the star of the show throughout Great Britain for the month of August 2024. Wind energy alone generated 33 percent of electricty demand and is expected to continue to rise.
So far in the 2024 calendar year, carbon emissions are nearly six million tons lower than at the same point in 2023. Fossil fuel generation continues to lose market share across Britain as renewable energy makes headway. Moreover, the United Kingdom’s last coal-fired power plant has closed, leaving gas as the only remaining fossil fuel to phase out. Significant wind capacity additions are planned to ensure green energy is even more prevalent nationwide by 2030.
