Heroes USAWoman Finds the Rightful Owners of a Veteran’s WWII Medals
When World War II medals and memorabilia were mistakenly sent to a woman from Michigan, United States, she took to social media to find the rightful owner’s family.
I immediately knew I had to find the right family,” explains Sandy Johnson. “These medals were just like, what an incredible soldier” who took part in the Normandy landings, better known as D-Day.
Both Anthony Schusters was married to a Mary, who lived in Wyandotte and was the same age. However, further research led Johnson to believe these medals and memorabilia didn’t belong to her grandfather, so she took them to Facebook’s “Downriver and Friends” group to find the rightful owners. She connected with Heaven Schuster, whose husband is Anthony M. Schuster’s grandnephew. The remaining family members of Anthony Schuster had no idea these medals and memorabilia existed. “I am amazed – at a place where we are right now in this world that there’s still somebody willing to go the extra mile for somebody else,” she exclaims.
