World First: a Floating Solar Farm up in the Sky!

Switzerland has unveiled a floating solar farm, a move hailed as an innovative approach to a greener future.

Sitting at about 1,810 meters above sea level and holding 35 platforms of bifacial solar panels, the world’s first high-altitude floating solar farm has placed all eyes on Switzerland.

Located in Switzerland’s Lac Des Toules, scientists at Zurich University of Applied Sciences looked into the installation process for the new high-altitude solar panel farm. Their findings suggest that the energy investment will be recovered in just over two years, noting that the floating solar farm will significantly reduce its carbon footprint. According to the study, the floating farm will emit only 94g of CO2 per kWh, which is considerably lower than any other traditional solar energy installation – let alone fossil fuel. The project is being hailed as a positive step in the right direction for the clean global energy transition. Perhaps sooner rather than later, these high-altitude solar farms will appear worldwide.
