EnvironmentTechnology SwedenWorld’s First Fossil-Free Steel Vehicle: Delivered!
The very first construction machine built out of fossil-free steel has been officially delivered to a customer, emphasizing Volvo Construction Equipment’s (Volvo CE) commitment to carbon neutrality.
“We are sure that to succeed in decarbonizing the construction industry, actors in the value chain will need to collaborate and act,” says Volvo CE President Melker Jernberg. “Thanks to our strong partnerships with other driven and forward-thinking companies, we are now able to lead the change towards fossil-free construction and be the first to deliver a machine built using fossil-free steel to a costumer. Turning commitments into actions is key to building the world we want to live in.”
The vehicle was handed over at the United Nations environmental meeting that took place in Stockholm on June 1, only nine months after Volvo CE announced the concept of the world’s first fossil-free steel vehicle. Though the commercial introduction of these fossil-free vehicles is expected to be both gradual and selective, the official first delivery is certainly a turning point toward a carbon-neutral vehicle industry.
