Say Hello to the World’s Largest Green Energy Project

An impressive renewable energy project will materialize in China with the first phase of construction already under way, showing that the world’s largest carbon emitter is serious about going green for the greater good.

“China will continue to promote the adjustment of industrial structure and energy structure, vigorously develop renewable energy, and accelerate the planning and construction of large-scale wind and solar projects in desert areas,” says President Xi  Jinping. “When we protect nature, it rewards us. When we exploit nature ruthlessly, it punishes us without mercy.”

Upon completion, the project built in the desert is expected to produce 400 gigawatts of energy. The first phase will produce 100 gigawatts of wind and solar, with the capacity expected to double by 2025. It is estimated that China’s project will have a larger capacity than India’s, and will generate four times the power of the Three Gorges Dam located on the Yangtze River in Hubei, China. The country will eventually release its plans to peak emissions by 2030, and the Kunming Biodiversity Fund will be established with an initial investment of $232 million.
