Environment The World12 Newly Protected Sites Is Good News for Nature!
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has just added 12 new sites from countries around the globe to its Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas.
“The success of these sites not only highlights their positive impact on people and nature but also inspires other sites to strive towards similar objectives, significantly contributing to the 30×30 target for effective area-based conservation by 2030,” says Stewart Maginnis, the IUCN’s Deputy Director General.
The 12 new sites are found in Brazil, China, Colombia, France, Saudi Arabia, and Zambia, totalling 87 IUCN Green Listed areas across 20 countries. The newly recognized areas are home to diverse ecosystems, including fishing communities, mangroves, glaciers, jaguars, cliffs, and deserts. Now, being part of the IUCN’s Green List, there is an assured quality benchmark to ensure the areas are adequately protected and conserved for the years to come.
