Environment Fiji18 Million Trees Planted Here in Only Four Years
Fiji has successfully planted over 18 million trees and mangroves since its restoration project began in September 2019.
“One of the most powerful strategies for addressing the climate crisis and restoring biodiversity is tree planting,” says Acting Executive Director for Operation Services, George Vuki.
In total, 30 million trees will be planted over a 15-year period. The project has already successfully planted around 60 percent of its end goal. What’s more, the Fiji Government’s Ministry of Forestry recently announced that further funding will be provided to support the project. The original $2.5 million budgeted allocation will now increase by an additional $2 million to further address challenges and enhance monitoring protocols of planted trees.
