35 Children Rescued from Labour in Spinning Mill

The authorities’ efforts to tackle child labor in garment factories pay off with the rescue of 32 girls and three boys in Tiruppur, in the Indian Tamil Nadu state, from a spinning mill.

“A probe against the mill has been initiated and all efforts are being made to ensure this rare case doesn’t happen again,” says Tiruppur’s district-in-charge. “We are conducting an enquiry and have instructed all our staff to update us on a daily basis.”

The local administration has since increased its factory visits to search for cases of child labor, and also to prevent the recruitment and exploitation of children as industries re-open after months of lockdown.
