$90 Million Goes Towards Health Equity and Equality

$90 million in American Rescue Plan funding was just allocated to nearly 1,400 community health centers across the United States in an effort to advance health equity.

“Health centers are that trusted resource in the highest risk and hardest hit communities in the country. As we recognize the heroic work of the frontline healthcare workers who make health centers what they are, today we also are investing in the tools they need to help them continue to best serve their communities,” says the department of Health Resources and Services Administration Administrator, Carole Johnson.

The financial award will be used for better data collection and reporting, ultimately helping eliminate inequalities within communities of color and other underserved populations. The improved data collection will also help prepare for any future public health emergencies as well as help tailor responses to a patient’s individual needs. Community health centers are known to deliver more affordable and accessible care; currently, one-in-three health center patients live in poverty, while two-thirds are ethnic minorities.
