Environment ChinaSteel Sector on Track to Achieve Ultra-Low Emissions Here
China is on track to ensure 80% of its crude steel capacity is transitioned to ultra-low emissions.
“We will strive to make sure that 80% of China’s crude steel capacity shall complete the ultra-low emission revamp work by the end of this year,” says Jiang Wei, vice chairman and secretary general of the China Iron and Steel Association.
The transition is part of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, which is focused on low-carbon development and sustainable modernisation. The ultra-low-emissions steel standards limit pollutant emissions throughout the entire steelmaking process, including the means of transportation. So far, over 591 million tons of steel capacity have already accomplished ultra-low emissions in China. Though only about six months remain before this deadline, it seems the nation is on track to achieve its 80% ultra-low steel emissions goal.
