“Princeling” Takes Flight: Golden Eagle Hits Conservation Milestone

A golden eagle chick named “Princeling” by Sir David Attenborough marks a hopeful milestone in the species’ comeback from near extinction in the UK.

“Many congratulations to all those in Restoring Upland Nature who have brought about the fledging of a young golden eagle,” said Attenborough, praising the success of the project.

Princeling hatched in southern Scotland under the South of Scotland Golden Eagle Project, which has now grown into the Restoring Upland Nature (RUN) initiative covering England and Wales. Monitored carefully and tagged with a GPS tracker, the chick’s survival highlights how communities, landowners, and scientists working together can create the conditions for endangered species to thrive again. His flight is seen as a milestone that could inspire further biodiversity recovery across the UK.
