Record Breaking Astronaut Christina is Back on Earth – With Loads of New Studies Done in Space

After completing the longest spaceflight ever achieved by a woman, astronaut Christina Koch has successfully made it back to Earth, bringing home priceless research material with her.

“I am so overwhelmed and happy right now,” says Koch with a smile and a thumbs up, after landing in Kazakhstan with two other astronauts on February 6.

Koch, who also took part in a historic all-women spacewalk last year, conducted many studies during her time in space. Among them were her participation in the vertebral strength investigation and the kidney cells investigation. She participated in a study that could lead to more efficient cancer treatments and worked on a research that developed a better understanding of ways that fire reacts and behaves in space.

Koch even partook in research on how to bring in more fresh food to space, according to CNN, taste-testing fresh Mizuna mustard greens grown on the station. Her mission will additionally give researchers new insights into the long-term effects of spaceflight on women.
