Leonardo DiCaprio’s Earth Alliance Gives Three Million Dollars for Bushfire Relief

Earth Alliance, an environmental organization co-chaired by Leonardo DiCaprio, has launched the Australia Wildfire Fund – donating 3 million dollars in an effort to help the country tackle its “catastrophic bushfires”.

The wildfires in Australia started in September – months earlier than the nation’s usual wildfire season – due to drought caused by record-breaking heat and dryness. Burning well over five million hectares of property, the fires have killed at least 25 people and destroyed 2,000 homes.

Earth Alliance – launched one year ago to fight climate change impacts – is working with Australian organizations including Aussie Ark, Bush Heritage, and Wires Wildlife Rescue.

Other celebrities have also donated large amounts to combat the wildfires, such as Chris Hemsworth and Elton John who each offered 1 million dollars, and Metallica who pledged to donate 750,000 dollars to firefighting and emergency services agencies in Victoria.
