Back to School for These Pregnant Teens and Young Moms!

Teenage pregnancy and early motherhood are no longer a reason for young girls to be banned from school in Tanzania, a decision that reflects the progress made in the African country’s education department.

“Later today, I will issue a statement explaining how the students who dropped out of school due to pregnancy and other reasons will go back to school,” said Education Minister Prof Joyce Ndalichako following the announcement, in a promise which she duly fulfilled.

First introduced in 2002, the law banning pregnant girls from attending regular school was reinforced in 2017. The education ministry commends the achievements made, including the fact that girls are now allowed to resume their studies after giving birth.
