Black Mud from Moors Detox Your Body – and Our Air

When I started working at a luxury resort in the moors close to Germany’s Bielefeld recently, I learned something really surprising: Moors cover only 3% of the world’s land area. Forests, on the other hand, 30%.

However, peatlands store twice as much carbon dioxide as all the world’s forests. Moors therefore make a huge sustainable contribution to climate protection.

At the same time the ‘Black Gold´s’ compounds are considered an effective support for detoxing the body and relieving effects, e.g. of rheumatism, hormonal discomfort and tired muscles. But due to drainage and exploitation most of the original bog areas in Germany are considered ‘dead’.

In the Gräflicher Park Bad Driburg measures are being taken to actively contribute to the protection of the moor. Situated in a historic spa resort dating back to 1782, the Counts von Oeynhausen-Sierstorpff own the largest privately owned moor ponds in Germany. Under the surveillance of a special moor cook, the black treasure is being regenerated in moor ponds for 7 years before being recycled again.
