Canada Bans Killer Guns for Good – Two Weeks After Mass Shooting

Canada’s prime minister has banned “military-style assault weapons” effective immediately, just two weeks following the country’s deadliest mass shooting in history.

The government has put up a list of 1,500 gun models covered by the ban that officially makes it against the law for Canadians to own military-style rifles such as the AR-15 – a weapon commonly used in mass shootings in the United States.

“These weapons were designed for one purpose and one purpose only: to kill the largest number of people in the shortest amount of time,” says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. “There is no use and no place for such weapons in Canada.”

The prime minister adds the government will introduce legislation to buy back the rifles, and the legislation will additionally include a measure to allow cities to ban handguns within their territories.
