Caravans Vaccinate Locals in Remote Towns

Since 2022, four mobile health caravans have been traveling through remote, underserved locations in the Western Balkans, ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to the COVID-19 vaccination.

“The caravan was instrumental in bringing vaccination teams closer to communities and providing them with an opportunity to learn more on how to protect their health and well-being and receive life-saving vaccines,” says Isme Humolli, National Professional Officer with the WHO Office in Pristina.

The caravans, supported by the World Health Organization, the United National Children’s Fund, and the United States Agency for International Development, are able to overcome certain barriers that healthcare facilities struggle with, such as lack of transportation vehicles, long distances, and time constraints. The caravans have not only allowed for greater access to vaccinations but also for greater health education and advice to these remote communities.
