Cheers to the Greenest Summer on Record!

The United Kingdom has just witnessed its greenest summer ever, with growing numbers of wind and solar farms replacing the need for fossil fuels and gas-powered plants.

“Just this week we achieved a record-setting round of renewables projects, with enough power for 11 million homes – essential to give energy security to families across the country,” says Ed Miliband, UK’s energy secretary.

The most recent energy generation data across Great Britain reveals that less than one-fifth of energy generation in August came from gas. The news marks a significant transition for the country — not very long ago, coal provided at least 40 per cent of electricity. The UK’s Labour Government hopes the power grid could arrive at virtually zero-carbon electricity by 2030. Various projects are currently underway to further ensure the transition toward clean energy.
