Conservation Win: Wild Tigers Are on the Rise

The wild tiger population in India and Bhutan is on the rise thanks to consistent conservation efforts on the part of both countries.

“India’s exemplary efforts in tiger conservation and the increase in tiger numbers is not just a statistic but a testament to the determination and commitment of the nation,” says union minister for forest, environment, and climate change, Bhupender Yadav.

Due to climate change, poaching, and habitat loss, the global wild tiger population has decreased by about 95 percent over the past century. The most recent numbers indicate that India is now home to 75 percent of the world’s total wild tiger population, with an average of 3,682 tigers in the country. Thanks to conservation efforts in Bhutan, the wild tiger population has risen by 27 percent since its last count in 2015. Tiger conservation is a crucial aspect of preserving complex natural ecosystems worldwide.
