New Trend in Corona Lockdown Here to Stay: Grow Your Own Food!

The coronavirus lockdowns may lead to a long-term uptick in urban farming, say experts, as more and more city residents across the globe are encouraged to grow fruits and greens in their own homes.

“More people are thinking about where their food comes from, how easily it can be disrupted, and how to reduce disruptions,” says Kotchakorn Voraakhom, landscape architect and designer of Asia’s largest urban rooftop farm in Bangkok, Thailand. “Urban farming can improve food security and nutrition, reduce climate change impacts, and lower stress.”

Media reports have already shown an increase in the purchase of seeds across several countries, as city dwellers opt to find alternative solutions to food security amid the COVID-19 outbreak that’s resulted in empty supermarket shelves caused by panic buying.
