Society MalawiCountry Levels Up in Health, Education and More
Malawi made significant improvements in public health, education, and development in 2024.
Literacy levels in the country are higher than ever, while the under-five mortality rate has seen drastic drops. Child nutrition and access to water and sanitation facilities have also improved.
The 2024 Malawi Demographic and Health Survey reveals that the nation is on a path toward sustained development and improved quality of life for its people. The study reveals an 84 percent vaccination rate for children aged 12-23 months, up from fewer than 50 percent in 1992. It also saw the percentage of women and men without formal education drop to 7 percent and 5 percent, respectively. Access to safe water is now a reality for 75 percent of households. In the meantime, the total fertility rate has declined with the increased use of contraceptives, and a larger percentage of men and women are now aware of prevention methods for HIV/AIDS. All in all, this smaller African nation has seen great progress in recent years in tackling long-standing development challenges.
