Animals United KingdomWhite-Tailed Eagles Back in England After 240 Years
240 years after they’ve been last seen in England, white-tailed eagles have finally made their first appearance above the North York Moors – all thanks to a new project aimed at re-introducing the birds back to the nation.
Also known as sea eagles, they are one of the largest birds of prey and have been long extinct in England due to illegal killing. But last August, Forestry England and the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation released six eaglets in the Isle of Wright as part of a five-year plan to bring out 60 of the birds around the Solent.
The project tracks the eaglets during their first trips across the United Kingdom, and the public can spot them from home using the interactive map.
Campaigners are also encouraging people who come across white-tailed eagles to help record details, with the Roy Dennis Foundation sharing an online reporting form on their website for spotters to fill out.
