Indonesia’s nationwide free health screening programme has helped 907,000 people diagnosed with diabetes and hypertension begin treatment, improving access to essential healthcare.
“Why is free health screening important? Because the target set for the Health Ministry under the National Medium-Term Development Plan is to increase average life expectancy from 72 to 76 years,” explains Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.
The Free Health Check (CKG) programme has reached 109 million people, approaching its 2026 target of 130 million, with 116 million already registered. After screening 73 million people in 2025 and identifying seven million cases of hypertension, the programme expanded to include medication and ongoing patient management. So far, 755,000 hypertension patients have started treatment, and the government aims to provide medication to 80% of those diagnosed and improve health outcomes for 80% of patients receiving treatment. The initiative focuses on four major health risk factors — high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar, cholesterol and obesity — to reduce cardiovascular disease and stroke and support longer, healthier lives.
