Home Healthcare Reaches Nearly 11 Million People

Mexico’s nationwide home healthcare programme has delivered 22.8 million consultations to 10.9 million older adults and people with disabilities, expanding access to essential medical services.

Emergency referrals through the programme represent “the possibility of even saving lives,” says Leticia Ramírez, Head of Mexico’s Ministry of Welfare.

Between July 2025 and June 2026, more than 21,000 healthcare workers visited patients at home, monitored blood pressure and glucose levels, updated vaccination records, and arranged specialist care when needed. By late August, nearly 900,000 people had been referred to specialised medical institutions, while total consultations had risen to almost 24.8 million. The initiative also supports Mexico’s planned Universal Health Service, designed to give patients access to care across public healthcare institutions. By June 2026, more than 2.2 million people had already registered for the new universal health credential.
