Free Period Pads for Every Student in This Country

As of 1 August 2023, Taiwan has made period products available in all schools and universities.

The country will invest a total of $3.18 million into the project, and 95,000 students are expected to benefit from the program. Taiwan’s premier Chen Chien-jen emphasized that ending “period poverty” is part of the country’s effort to promote gender equality.

The program will also provide subsidies for low-income students to purchase needed supplies outside of school hours. Educating students of the realities of menstruation and reducing its social stigma is also included within the program. Taiwan follows in the footsteps of Scotland and New Zealand who in 2020 and 2021, respectively, introduced plans to provide tampons and sanitary pads to all schools nationwide.
